INFO

"Uninhabited Island" situated "The City Ghettos of Today" in the Berlin site-specific context of a rapidly changing city, from the “Cinderella” of European capitals back in the 1990s to the present “place to be”. The focus was placed on the urban and social changes which are currently affecting the city, such as gentrification and the resulting displacement of low-income inhabitants, often including those with a “migration background” Former immigrant and poor districts often associated with the idea of “ghetto”, like Kreuzberg or Neukölln, have received unprecedented hype and developed into magnets for tourists and real estate investors during the last five years.

Looking for Participants for a THEATER PROJECT at English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center

BERLIN IS CHANGING. TELL YOUR STORY OF BERLIN!

**** DEUTSCH UNTEN ****

- Were you born here and feel threatened by the changes? | – Is Berlin a paradise to you where you can make
your dreams come true? |- Did you live here before the Fall of the Berlin Wall and can‘t recognize the city
anymore? | – Did you just arrive in the city and find the changes exciting? | – Have you bought an
apartment and see your future in Berlin? |- Do you think the changes are a natural development for a
metropolis? | – Do you have difficulties defending your place in this city? Or simply finding it? |
- Are there developments that you feel excluded by? | – Has the „primary language“ in your
neighborhood changed? | – Can you even communicate with your (new) neighbors?

We see Berlin as an ISLAND. An ISLAND full of existing inhabitants and constantly
arriving new inhabitants. An ISLAND that everyone wants to obtain or defend a piece of.
We want to put the „struggle“ for the ISLAND on stage.

We are looking for: Housewives, house husbands, activists, workers, artists,
businesspeople, squatters, students, retirees, investors, bon vivants, punks, college
students, hipsters, OLD AND NEW BERLINERS of all origins with or without
theater experience who want to examine their fears, dreams, hate, love and
constructive suggestions for the present and future Berlin in a theater
workshop and put them on stage.

ALL LANGUAGES are welcome. A theater piece made from
YOUR experiences will be created.

When:
The workshop, led by an international team, will be held
from NOVEMBER 4 – 12 (meetings are planned for the
afternoons, but this can be discussed with the participants).
The results of the workshop will be presented at
English Theatre Berlin | International Performing
Arts Center on NOVEMBER 13 at 8pm.

Participation is free of charge.
